Scout/Cross Draw Carry

This sheath is designed to be carried horizontally on your belt, either Scout Carry or Cross Draw. Scout Carry is referred to as carrying the sheath at the small of your back, while Cross Draw is carrying the sheath on the front of your belt.

PRS Collar Retention

PRS stands for Pivoting Retention Strap. This design feature allows you to pivot the retention strap downward once it is unsnapped, so it is out of the way of the knife edge when drawing the knife.

Ambidextrous Carry

This sheath is designed to be ambidextrous. Simply unscrew the straps and retention collar from the sheath, and flip them over to the opposite side. We just ask which Draw Side in the options above so that your sheath will arrive already setup the way you want.

Opposite Draw Side PRS Collar

While the Benchmade 162 Bushcrafter Scout Sheath is ambidextrous, the PRS collar component is not. This is due to the shape of the knife's handle, which requires a separate molded PRS collar for Left and Right Draw Sides. This component is required if you are purchasing the Vertical Carry Conversion, because converting the sheath to Vertical Carry will reorient the sheath in a way that requires the Opposite Draw Side PRS Collar to be installed.

Made from Premium Wickett & Craig Saddle Skirting Leather

Each sheath is made from Wickett & Craig's Grade A, 9-10oz, Vegetable Tanned, Saddle Skirting Leather. We chose this leather as it is firm, yet workable, has a rich depth of color, and develops a beautiful patina with character throughout its life.

Lifetime Guarantee

We stand behind all of our Craftsmanship and Materials. We guarantee that our product's stitches will stay stitched, rivets will stay riveted, and snaps will continue to function for the life of the product. Should you manage to cut your retention strap, we will replace it for you. The retention strap and kydex collar are both covered under our Lifetime Guarantee.

Vertical Carry Option

Each of our Scout Sheaths has the ability to be converted to Vertical Carry using our Vertical Carry Conversion. The conversion piece mounts to the back of the sheath, and still allows the belt straps and pouch to remain attached to the sheath. This sheath uses Vertical Carry Conversion Size 3.

Water Resistant Wax Treatment

Each of our sheaths is waxed inside and out with a Beeswax based Leather Conditioner. We apply this Leather Conditioner with heat, which liquefies the wax so it penetrates deep into the leather fibers. Our wax treatment in the interior of the sheath ensures that moisture will not be trapped within the sheath, to avoid the chance of rust forming on your blade.

High Quality Snaps and Hardware

We only use the best hardware for our sheaths,Black Oxide Steel Chicago Screw Hardware and DOT Scovill Mil-Spec Button Snaps.

MOLLE Compatible

The belt loop spacing of this sheath is compatible with standard MOLLE/PALS webbing. Horizontal Mounting Only.

Firesteel Loop

This allows you to carry a firesteel on your sheath. Available in 3 sizes: 1/4", 5/16", 3/8". These sizes refer to the diameter of the firesteel rod. Firesteel is sold separately.

    Quality Craftsmanship

Posted by JStraus on Mar 3rd 2018

I was looking for a scout carry knife sheath for my benchmade bushcrafter. I looked at patriot leather works, hedgehog and sagewood. After comparing and some nit picking, I finally settled on the sagewood based on price and what appeared to be quality craftsmanship . I could not be more pleased. The leather is thick but pliable, the snaps and screws are heavy duty, the stitching is top quality. The overall fit of the knife in the sheath is spot on. The only benefit I see the hedgehog having over this sheath is its rapid release retention system ( a couple of elastic bands) on the leather retention strap holding the knife in the sheath. By no means though, is the knife difficult to remove from the sagewood sheath. For more than double the price, in my opinion not worth it. The bottom line is, if you are in the market for a quality knife sheath for a fair price, just order it now. You'll be smiling 8 weeks later when it arrives.

Best Sheath for this knife hands down

Posted by Aaron C on Jan 15th 2018

I bought the 162 in October, its a very nice knife but the Benchmade Sheath that came with it didn't match the knifes quality. I ordered two other sheaths from other vendors and none of them meet my expectations, until I found Sagewood. I wish i had ordered this first, it is literally the nicest sheath ive ever owned. fit and finish are superior, everything about this the hardware the plastic it is just beautiful. When its time for a new knife i will only consider knifes that are on this guys knife list.

    Exceptional Sheath

Posted by Bjorn on Dec 23rd 2017

This is a great sheath! I was looking for a replacement for the flimsy factory sheath. There are a lot of options out there, but this particular sheath had the features I wanted: flexible carry options, quality leather finish, firesteel loop. And in my home state.
The wait was worth it. Exceptional craftsmanship! The knife blade has a snug fit so it won't move around at all. The retaining snap is extremely tight and a little hard to fasten now, but I'm glad. This way the leather will stretch a little and conform to my knife. No chance this thing is falling out. The Firesteel fits perfectly too.
Sagewood was also nice enough to let me add the vertical carry option after the fact and before shipping.
    Definitely would buy again.
