Product Overview
Land Navigation has become a perishing skill. With the advent of GPS, people are becoming more and more dependent on electronic devices for navigation purposes. While GPS has many positive benefits, it does not replace a map and compass. We view GPS as support equipment, and the Compass to be the primary tool for navigation in unknown territory. This pouch was designed to keep this vital piece of equipment ready at hand, and well protected. Inspired by the USGI nylon compass pouch, we've built this pouch to withstand the rigors of off-trail navigation, while still offering an excellent fit and function.
The GP-NAV Pouch is made from 7oz Wickett & Craig Leather, and is designed to fit the Suunto MC2, Silva Ranger, and Cammenga 3H/27. It will also fit the standard Altoids tins for use as a PSK(Personal Survival Kit). We have included a hole in the pouch lid to pass the compass lanyard through, allowing for neck carry and to keep the pouch attached to the compass. The belt loop will accommodate up to a 2" wide belt, and also has the option of mounting vertically on a pack strap. Shoulder strap velcro loops are long enough to accommodate most shoulder straps. Excess strap can be trimmed off with a scissors. The optional PSK tin is the standards Altoids size tin.
A note on the Cammenga Lensatic Compass: The Cammenga 3H/27 compass is taller than common orienteering sighting mirror compasses such as the Suunto MC-2. While this compass pouch was designed for the flatter sighting mirror compasses, it will fit the Cammenga just fine. The fit will be somewhat tight initially, but after a couple days the leather will stretch and the compass can be pulled out with ease.
If you've got a compass that is not listed, send us an email with the dimensions and we will let you know if it will fit.
